Amy DennttThere is growing recognition about the role of physical activity and exercise in cancer recovery which is reflected in recent national and international guidelines. Despite this, access to specialized exercise programs for people with cancer is poor and physical therapists often lack confidence prescribing exercise to this population.

Physical therapists express a desire for more learning opportunities and resources related to exercise prescription and cancer. Professional development in this area is slowly increasing for physical therapists wanting to work in cancer care but there is a lack of centralized information that can help physical therapists establish cancer rehabilitation programs in their practice. This gap led to the development of the Cancer Exercise Toolkit in 2020 which is a website aimed at providing exercise professionals, including physical therapists, with up to date, evidence-based information about exercise and cancer. This toolkit was co-designed by physical therapists across Australia and launched in 2021.

In this webinar entitled, “The Cancer Exercise Toolkit: A co-designed website for physiotherapists”, we will provide an overview about the development of the Cancer Exercise Toolkit, including the co-design process and share outcomes related to the website’s usability and impact on clinician’s confidence and behaviours in prescribing exercise to people with cancer.
