Learning Outcome:
Upon completion of this course, physiotherapists will be able to describe the pathology of cancer, its treatments, and their effects on the human body. They will be able to explain how these factors influence patients’ physical functioning and recovery. Participants will learn to analyse key physiotherapeutic considerations across different stages of the disease and its treatment. They will be able to apply appropriate physiotherapy interventions tailored to the individual needs of people living with or recovering from cancer. Finally, they will be able to evaluate the effectiveness of these interventions and adapt them when necessary to optimise patient outcomes and well-being.

Cancer is a disabling and costly health care condition for people. This course will focus on an introduction to cancer pathology and its treatment and give clinicians an understanding of the disease and its impact on hematological, neurological, metabolic, and muscular function. In addition, the causes and mechanisms underlying cancer related pain, fatigue, weakness, chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, radiation fibrosis, and lymphedema will be covered in detail to provide a foundation for cancer patient assessment and choice of physiotherapy treatment modalities in general practice.
