Speaker:
Nele Adriaenssens, PT, PhD is an Associate Professor in Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB, Brussels, Belgium). She earned her Master of Sciences in 2008 and her PhD in 2012 at VUB, with her dissertation focusing on the lymphatic and neuromusculoskeletal adverse events of innovative breast cancer treatments.

She teaches a variety of courses, including those on lymphology, oncologic rehabilitation, and rehabilitation psychology at VUB and other Flemish and international HEI (higher education institution). Nele is a Principal Investigator of the Rehabilitation Research group (RERE) at VUB. Her research primarily centres on lymphology and exercise-oncology, and she has an extensive international record of publications and projects.

Nele supervises and serves on professional and scientific committees, advisory boards for PhD students worldwide, and actively contributes to international conferences in lymphology, oncology, and hematology. Additionally, as the Head physiotherapy, she coordinates the oncologic rehabilitation programs and (lymph)edema consultation at the Medical Oncology Department of UZ (Universitair Ziekenhuis/hospital), Brussels, Belgium since 2013.

She is a co-founder (2016) and past president (2021–2023) of the Belgian Society of Lymphology (BeSL) and currently coordinates the Physiotherapy pilar of BeSL. Since 2024, she has served as the General Secretary of the European Society of Lymphology and has been a member of the International Society of Lymphology since 2012. She is also the Lymphedema Special Interest Group Lead of IPTHOPE.
